We are almost through our first month of summer and you better believe the BBB Team isn’t wasting a minute of it. While we are gallivanting (by “gallivanting” we mean drinking bourbon, eating bacon and being forced to listen to Call Me Maybe on repeat) on Suzie Robb’s rooftop this weekend, here are a few things you should do…
1. Eat a shit ton of BBQ. The National Capital Barbecue Battle 2012 is taking place on Pennsylvania Ave between 9th & 14th Streets, NW. Pay $15 at the gates and you will get access to five blocks of America’s best brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and more. The event is happening both Saturday and Sunday.
2. Escape the District for the sake of good beer. Most of us live in DC and couldn’t even find Leesburg, Virginia on a map, however, Northern Virginia Summer Brewfest is well worth leaving the city for. There will be live music and food, but the only reason you should trek out to Bumfuck Nowhere is this: over 50 breweries are participating. Twenty bucks gets you a commemorative glass (which you will break halfway through the day or lose on the way home) and 4 beer tickets.
3. Get naked. All of that booze and BBQ needs to be counteracted with some sort of physical activity. Hit the annual Naked Foot 5k Sunday morning in Chevy Chase. Sweat out your hangover and support a good cause.
4. Put years of air guitar practice to good use. No longer do you have to rock out to Journey in the privacy of your own home! Check out the U.S. Air Guitar Championships at the 9:30 Club on Saturday night. For just $20, you can watch the best air guitarists DC has to offer compete for the regional title. We suggest getting very drunk and taking lots of videos. Note: all guitars must be invisible according to the official U.S. Air Guitar rules.
Have a great weekend, kiddos. We’ll be back on Monday.
